■ #3125. 基本語順の類型論 (2) [word_order][syntax][typology][adjective][demonstrative][numeral][world_languages]

　昨日の記事 ([2017-11-15-1]) で，基本語順の類型論について Greenberg の古典的研究に触れた．Greenberg は30の言語を対象に，数種類の語順を比較した．その結果，「（日本語のように）SOV型の言語であれば後置詞をもつ可能性が高い」などの類型論上の含意 (typological implication) が多数認められることを明らかにした．Greenberg (107--08) のまとめた比較表を以下に挙げる．

　1列目は S, V, O の3要素に関する語順であり，I は VSO, II は SVO, III は SOV を表わす．
　2列目は前置詞 (Pr) をもつか，あるいは後置詞 (-) をもつかを表わす．
　3列目は「名詞＋形容詞」の語順 (NA) か，「形容詞＋名詞」の語順 (-) かを表わす．
　4列目は「名詞＋指示詞」の語順 (ND) か，「指示詞＋名詞」の語順 (-) かを表わす．
　5列目は「名詞＋数詞」の語順 (N Num) か，「数詞＋名詞」の語順 (-) かを表わす．

1. Participle of adjective-verb, however, precedes and is probably as common as adjective following.
2. Numeral classifiers following numerals in each case. The construction numeral + classifier precedes in Burmese and Maya, follows in Japanese and Thai, and either precedes or follows in Malay.
3. In Welsh and Italian a small number of adjectives usually precede.

　全体として，5種類の語順のあいだに弱からぬ相関関係があることを見て取ることができる．対象となった言語は30個にすぎないとはいえ，異なる系統や地域からの言語が選択されており，それなりに信頼することのできる調査結果として受け入れられている．
