また,ある種の書き言葉レジスターにしか見られないとも指摘されている ("limited for the most part to areas of colloquial writing where one might least expect formality of expression" [Baum 74]) .

Alongside this tendency toward condensation there is a slowly growing counterimpulse toward reestablishing the full dignity of the initial word by expansion. Perhaps this countermovement is stimulated by the notion that the initial word is too stark in appearance.

This counterimpulse to abbreviation, as indicated in these few examples, is obviously a weak one, still relegated to the periphery of the language. But a sizable proportion of these expanded initial words---okay, Seabee, emcee---has by now gained lexicographical acceptance, certainly an indication that the neologism is finding approval.
