#4975. 2重目的語を取る動詞，取りそうで取らない動詞[transitive_verb][masanyan][voicy][heldio][preposition][complementation][syntax][genius6]

　昨日の Voicy 「英語の語源が身につくラジオ (heldio)」にて，まさにゃんと対談した．「#557. まさにゃん対談：supply A with B の with って要りますか？ --- 『ジーニアス英和辞典』新旧版の比較」と題して，supply や provide などの動詞が give と同じように SVOO，すなわち2重目的語構文を作る動詞 (ditransitive_verb) になりつつあるという統語変化について，辞書の新旧版を比較しながら歓談した．

　この放送と関連して，現代英語で2重目的語を取る動詞，および取れそうで取れない動詞（前置詞を用いる必要のある動詞など）を整理してみたい．ただし，網羅的な一覧を作ることを目指すわけではなく，Huddleston and Pullum (309) の分類と事例を引用するにすぎない．
　まず補文に2つの項を取る give タイプの動詞を，構文ごとに5種類に分類する．

　この5分類に従って，それぞれの動詞のサンプルを与えよう．i, iii, v の3種が，いわゆる2重目的語を取る動詞である．

　i O_i or TO: award, bequeath, bring, cable, deny, feed, give, hand, kick, leave₁, lend, offer, owe, pass, post, promise, read, sell, send, show, take, teach, tell, throw, write
　ii TO only: announce, confess, contribute, convey, declare, deliver, donate, exhibit, explain, mention, narrate, refer, return, reveal, say, submit, transfer
　iii O_i or FOR: bake, build, buy, cook, design, fetch, find, get, hire, leave₂, make, order, reach, rent, reserve, save₁, sing, spare₁, write
　iv FOR only: acquire, borrow, collect, compose, fabricate, obtain, recover, retrieve, withdraw
　v O_i only: allow, begrudge, bet, charge, cost, envy, excuse, fine, forgive, permit, refuse, save₂, spare₂, strike, tax, tip, wish

　放送で話題になった supply, provide は2重目的語を取る動詞として含まれていないことからも，上記はあくまで標準的な用法に限った上でのサンプルである．
　ほかに2重目的語を取り得る動詞として，Quirk et al. (§16.57) のリストも引用しておきたい．
