oino- one, unique. <<Gmc>> [OE] a2, alone, an1, anon, any, atone, eleven, lone, lonely, nonce, none, once, one; [ON] Eric. <<L>> inch1, null, ounce1, triune, unanimous, uncia, uni-, unicorn, union, unique, unite, unity, universe.
Eric The name is Scandinavian in origin, from Old Norse einn, 'one' and ríkr, 'ruler', in other words 'monarch'. Not surprisingly, the name has been popular (in the spelling Erik) for kings of Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Two famous 10th-century bearers of the name are Eric the Red, who explored and named Greenland, and Eric Bloodaxe, who killed seven of his eight brothers to secure the throne (hence his nickname).
