For Friday, September 27, 2019:

1. Get the Japan Times (JT) on the morning of Saturday, September 25, 2019 at a newsstand of a train station near your house. Note that the JT is a morning paper and that you CANNOT buy it in the afternoon. If you should forget to get the JT, call the Japan Times and buy a copy from them. Note that they will send it to you by mail, it takes a few days. Also, you can get the copy of the Japan Time from a Asahi Shinbun Home Delivery Center near your house. They are often called "ASA.".
2. Use the JT and finish Handout, pp. 3-4 (Homework #1). Note that this handout was made BEFORE the newspaper was published. Therefore, you may NOT be able to find ALL the information. If so, write "The information is not available" or "N/A" in the handout.
3. Those who will introduce themselvese in this class:
(1) Use the handouts about self-introduction and physical message (i.e., pp. 22-25) and prepare well for your self-introduction! Do not forget to rehearse with a watch and body language as many times as possible, so that you can talk about yourself like Dr. McGonigal!
(2) Come to class at least 10 minutes before the start bell, so that you can copy your PowerPoint slide file to Mr. Shimura's computer.

(1) Use the handouts about self-introduction and physical message (i.e., pp. 22-25) and repare well for your self-introduction! Do not forget to rehearse with a watch and body language as many times as possible, so that you can talk about yourself like Dr. McGonigal!
(2) Come to class at least 10 minutes before the start bell, so that you can copy your PowerPoint slide file to Mr. Shimura's computer.
2. Bring your schedule book. We will decide when you will give your first presentations in this class.

Our Internationl Center will hold the Study Abroad Fair next week, on Wednesday and Thursday. Look at this homepage and attend one of their guidance sessions. Also, make sure to get a copy of the Study Abroad handbook.

For Friday, October 4, 2019:

1. [Review] Check your answers in the first homework for the last time by comparing your answers to the official answers on pp. 3b-4b. Pay close attention to the underlined parts, so that you can improve your academic English skills.
2. [Review] Look at Section II.1 in Handout, p. 13, and find out your strong and weak points in physical message (body language). Work more on your weak points before you give your first presentation.
3. [New ]Read Handouts, pp. 9-16b and prepare for the first lecture on preparing for and giving the first long presentation in English.

For Tuesday, October 8, 2019:

1. [Review] Look at the schedule section of this homepage and manage your schedule well for your MOP.
2. [Review] Read HO, pp. 9-10, and review Step 1 of your MOP.
3. [Review] Read HO, pp. 5, 6, and 6b and review characteristics of newspaper English.
4. [New] Finish homework on pp. 7-8. We will check your answers in this class.
5. [New] Read HO, pp. 10-11 and prepare for the lecture on the contents of your MOP.
