ANNOUNCEMENTS

Last Updated on October 2, 2015

For Tuesday, September 29, 2015:

1. Get the Japan Times (JT) on the morning of Saturday, September 26, 2015 at a newsstand of a train station near your house. Note that the JT is a morning paper and that you CANNOT buy it in the afternoon. If you should forget to get the JT, go to the JT and buy a copy of the news paper. See this map for info about where the JT is. Although it takes more time, you can get the copy of the Japan Time from a Asahi Shinbun Home Delivery Center near your house. They are often called "ASA.".
2. Use the JT and finish Handout, pp. 3-4 (Homework #1). Note that this handout was made BEFORE the newspaper was published. Therefore, you may NOT be able to find ALL the information. If so, write "The information is not available" or "N/A" in the handout.
3. If your self-introduction is scheduled for this date, prepare well for it. Be especially careful about physical message (i.e., body language) by reviewing Handouts (pp.22-25). I strongly recommend you to use PowerPoint slides.
Here are example presentations which you want to look at when you prepare for your self-introduction. Pay attention to their physical message. The presentations also give you lots of useful information about giving presentations like stress management and body language (eps. posture and power pose):

1. Dr. Kelly McGonigal of Stanford University: How to Make Stress Your Friend (TED.com)
2. Dr. Amy Cuddy of Harvard Business School: Your Body Language Shapes Who You Are (TED.com)

For Tuesday, October 6, 2015:

1. Read Handout, pp. 9-10 and "review" Step 1 (Preparation) of your first presentation (MOP).
2. Read Handout, pp. 10-11 and prepare for the second lecture about Step 2 of your MOP.
3. Look at the Schedule section of this homepage and think about the preparation schedule for your MOP.
4. Finish Handout, pp. 3-4. You will submit this homework in this class.
5. Read Handouts, pp. 5, 6, and 6b and prepare for the second lecture about newspaper English.
