ANNOUNCEMENTS

Last Updated on October 10, 2014

Friday, September 26, 2014:

1. At home, read pp. 70-73 of the Study Skills textbook and review body language techniques (or physical message) for presetations.
2. Look at the following two presentations by clicking on the following links and evaluate/check their speakers' body lannguage techniques:

(1) Rather Informal Presentation Example
(2) Rather Formal Presentation Examples (esp. those by Ms. Takigawa and Mr. Ohta)

We will discuss their strong and weak points in this class.

3. You will give your self-introduction by using PowerPoint slides next week on Wednesday. Start studying how to make PowerPoint slides. You can do so by reading a book on the software. Your classmates and/or friends are often good teachers of the presentation software. You may learn how to make electric slides from them.

Wednesday, October 1, 2014:

1. Prepare well for your 5-minute-long self-introduction presentation. Note: See the "Self-introduction" handout for details about using PowerPoint for your self-inroduction.
2. After the class on Friday, Mr. Ikeda asked me a good question about this homework. In the handout to help you prepare for your self-introduction, there are only five spaces for slides. And Mr. Ikeda was wondering if he can use more slides. YES!!! As you have five mintutes, you will talk a lot of things about yourself. You will probably need a lot more slides for the speech. For example, you will probably need one slide as a title slide. You can also show a menu slide after the title slide (before Point #1). You can have a conclusion slide at the end too. Any way, after you make all your slides, rehearse as many times as possible with a watch and physical message. Then, think whether you will need more slides or not.
Note: Our classroom for Wednesday has been changed to Room D402.

Friday, October 3, 2014:

1. Buy the Japan Times in the morninng on Thursday, October 2, 2014 and bring it to this class. We will use this news paper for the next two weeks and learn newspaper English. Note that you can buy a copy of the Japan Times at a news stand of a train station near your house. If you should forget to buy the paper, you can still get a copy by (1) going to the Japan Times in Tamachi or (2) asking an Asahi Shinbun home delivery center (or ASA) near your house to get you a copy of the paper. Both of these methods, however, take time. For (1), you need to go all the way to Tamachi, while (2) usually takes a few days. Our Hiyoshi Libray does have the Japan Times, but you cannot check it out.

Wednesday, October 8, 2014:

1. Finish Handout (pp. 3-4).
2. Read Handout (pp. 5-6)
3. Read Handout (pp. 9-10), review Step 1 of your first presentation, and start preparing for the presentation.

Wednesday, October 15, 2014:

1. Read Handouts (pp. 9-11) and review Steps 1 and 2 of your MOP. Also, if you have not downloaded the example slides from our homepage (its top page) yet, do so and examine them BEFORE you make yours. Note that, although I said that I would upload the example slides made by students to Žö‹ÆŽx‰‡ of keio.jp, I will not be able to do so until Wednesday for technical reasons. Thank you for your patience.
2. Read Handout (pp. 5-6 and 6b) and finish HW Handout (pp. 7-8). We will check your answers.
