For Monday, April 18, 2005:

Homework:
- Buy a copy of the Japan Times (JT) at a news stand of a train station near
your house on the monring of Saturday, April 16, 2005. The JT is a morning
paper, so you should buy it in the morning. If you should forget to do
so, you can buy a copy by going to the JT office in Shiba, Minato Ward.
Look at this homepage (map) for info about this office. You should call their circulation department
BEFORE you go there!
- Finish all items on pp. 3-4 of our class handout.
- Read pp. 5-6 of our class handout.
- Homework for Y. Nakamura, Matsumoto, Taniguchi, and T. Hasegawa ONLY:
- Go to the Hiyoshi Library and look at the latest Japan Times.
- Select one or two news stories you want to give a presentation about.
- Make a copy of the news stories and show them to Mr. Shimura on Monday.
For Friday, April 22, 2005:
- Homework:
- 1. Analyze the lead in the example news story on p. 5.
- 2. Use the Japan Times for Saturday, April 16, 2005 and finish Handout,
pp. 7-8. This is homework #2!
- 3. Read Handout, p. 9-10 and review how to prepare for your first presentation
(i.e., MOP). If your presentation is coming soon, start STEP 1 NOW.
- Homework for Y. Nakamura and Matsumoto:
- 1. Do STEP 1.1 (Handout, p. 9). Read the checklist very carefully and finish
ALL items.
- 2. Do STEP 1.2 (Handout, p. 10) and bring 31 copies of your first handout
to this class.
- Homeowork for Taniguchi and T. Hasegawa:
- 1. Do STEP 1.1 (Handout, p. 9). Read the checklist very carefully and finish
ALL items there.
For Monday, April 25, 2005:
- Homework:
- 1. Read Handouts, pp. 9-11 and think about the CONTENT of your first speech
(MOP).
- 2. Read Handouts, pp. 13-35 and prepare for the lecture about the Presentation
Skills for MOPs.
For Monday, May 2, 2005:
- Homework:
- 1. Prepare well for the first two MOPs by Nakamura and Matsumoto and enjoy
them!
- 2. Review the two important checklists for MOPs and start preparing for
your MOPs:
- (1) Checklist on Content (pp. 9-12) and their supplements
- (2) Checklist on SS Presentation Skills (pp. 13-4) and their supplements.
