Note: If you should forget to buy the Japan Times on Wendesday, you must get it from the Japan Times in Shibaura, Minato-ku, Tokyo. Look at their web site and get a copy of the news paper by Thursday. You should call them first BEFORE you go to their office.

For Monday, October 4, 2004:

1. Review characteristics of newspaper English on pp. 5-6.
2. Finish Homework #2 on pp. 7-8. (Note: You do not have to do 3(2) on p. 8.)

For Friday, October 8, 2004:

Everything in our handouts are important for you to succeed in our class. Yet, two checklists are especially important to give a good first presentation:
(1) The MOP Checklist (pp. 9-12)
(2) The Presentation Skill/Technique Checklist (pp. 13-4).
Use (1) first and think about the "content" of your MOP. Then, look at (2) and check your "presentation techniques." If you check all check items in these two checklists, you will be ready to give a good presentation.
Note that these two checklists suggest you to look at other class handouts. These extra handouts give you good examples on various presentation techniques. I strongly recommend you to go to these other pages and use them also in your MOP.
Good luck with your MOPs!!!

For Friday, October 15, 2004:

1. Prepare well for the MOPs scheduled for this date.
2. Remember, use less than 10 minutes on each handout and:
(1) Look at all comprehension questions,
(2) Read the news story, and
(3) Answer the questions.
3. If you are interested in the news story or if you are in the same specialization area,, think of questions and ask them in the "Questions and Answers" section of the MOPs.

For Monday, November 1, 2004:

This class was canceled due to the baseball game between Keio and Waseda. This means we need to change our class schedule. As you can see in the Schedule section of our homepage, we will postpone all presentations by one class. Note that this means a various changes have also been made to your DEADLINES BEFORE your presentations (e.g., the deadline to send information about your presentation to Mr. Shimura). Look at the Schedule section of our web site and change relevant entries in your schedule books too.
Remeber to finish the homework for this class too: Read Class Handouts, pp. 42-47 and start thinking about your FOP.
See you on Friday!
