- After the class on April 15, some of you told me that my explanation about homework AND the schedule sheet were not very clear. As a result, some of you may not know what the homework is. So I decided to list it below:
- Homework for the Presentation Section on April 19:
- "Part 1" of the Presentation Section in the SS Handbook (pp. 28-30)
- Monday, April 22:

- Monday, May 13: A Very Important Day with Your Mini Presentation #2
- Homework for the Presentation Section
- Topic:
- You Two Options to Choose From:
- (1) Personal Experience as an Adult (Assignment A, pp. 6-8)
- (2) Personal Experience as a Child (Assignment B, pp. 9-10)
- Prepare for "Personal Experience Speech" with:
- Handout "Worksheet for Speech 2" and p. 11 of SCMS
- NEW Handouts on Physical Message (posture, eye contact, gesture and voice)
- Rehearse your speech with a watch as many times as possible:
- It will be 1 to 2 minutes long, maximum.
- You will be stopped after two minutes, so that everyone can give his/her speech in this class.
- The focus of this speech is physical message. Show the mastery of the use of physical message.
- You cannot "read" a note in this speech, so that you can have as much eye contact with your audience as possible.

- Check out the videotape of your mini presentation #2 and analyze the physical messages of your presentation. This videotape is available at the Audio-Visual Center Office which is located on the 2nd floor of Building #3.

- Homework for the Reading Section:
- Homework Handout about Step 1 in Reading.
- A1: Spielberg
- A2: The author discusses why he is considered an excellent film-maker.
- A3: Spielberg's films hve not only been commercially successful but also included deep analysis of human issues.
- Monday, May 27:
- Prepare well for Mid-term Presentation
- Topic: Meaningful Object (see pp. 12-3 of SCMS)
- Length: 90 seconds (maximum)
- Rehearse with a watch as many times as possible.
- You cannot "read" your notes. However, you can use one or two note cards with a list of your main points.

- Use (1) the worksheet to prepare and (2) the checklist to practice and rehearse for your mid-term presentation!

- Friday, May 31:
- Prepare for Mid-term Exam on Writing and Reading (70 minutes long)
- The Writing Section in the mid-term exam
- You will read a text with 4 to 5 paragraphs and write your opinion about it in one paragraph.
- Focus:
- The Format Checklist
- The Structure Checklist
- The Spelling and Grammar Checklist
- The Reading Section in the mid-term exam
- You will read the same text (as the one in the writing section) and answer the three questions in Step One
- Sorry that we had to cancel today's class for my health problem. Since our schedule is tight, please finish the following assignments by Friday, instead. We will check your answers in the activities. Also, the Friday class will be given with the assumption that you will have finished all these assignments, so that we can save time. See you on Friday!

- 1. Read all paragraphs on p. 21 of SCMS and produce its outline.
- 2. Read the text in Section II of the Step Two handout and produce its outline.
- Presentation Section
- Prepare and rehearse well with a watch for the Introduction part of your Final Presentation!!!
- Remember to Communicate the three messages.
- Look at pp. 30-31 of the SS Handbook and the handouts given on June 17 for useful expressions you can use in your Introduction.
