Strength of the instructor:
  • She was answering to the needs of the students.
  • I liked that we did two presentations.
  • The instructor understood the lacking points of students' English skills and taught the correct way to write academic papers in easy and understand steps.
  • Everyone has the chance to participating in class. Students can improve their presentation skills.
  • Giving examples. Uses easy English.
  • The instructor tried very hard to answer the students' needs.
  • Providing appropriate reading material.
  • To connect/interact with one another
  • The loads of homework
  • The explanation of the reading material was good.

Suggested improvements:
  • It is difficult to raise the motivation of the whole class. Therefore on the syllabus, there should be a warning saying that only motivated students are allowed. Or making the interview more difficult can be a choice.
  • It was hard for me to finish my assignment. It was hard for me to be enthusiastic in class, after staying late for my assignment.
  • Change the system of vocabulary quiz. The level of English of the student should be accounted for.
  • I think it should focus more on the topic. For example, same topic for two or three classes.
  • It would be better if there was clear instruction for the final paper and final presentation.
  • Some of topics were not looked in very deeply. and so should lessen the reading materials.
  • Make affordable class schedule for majority of students
  • To spend more time on a particular material than to spend less

Other comments :
  • I felt this course was tougher than the other English seminar courses.
  • Beware of the loads of homework
  • There were too much reading and the reading material was difficult for me.

Comments for future students:
  • In the class, students can learn the basic skills in higher level, so I'll guarantee most people will enjoy this class.

Comments from the instructor:
This class is nearly twice larger than the same courses in previous years, and hence included students with varying reading/thinking skills. It was never an easy class, but students honestly tried to cope with the challenge. Introducing reading questions, possibly spending more than one class session for one reading, and giving more support to set up the topics of the final project should help students in future class.
