良いと感じた点:
改善点:
- Professor Matsuoka is a very knowledgeable teacher who understand her field, linguistics. She is always enthusiastic about teaching her classes.
- She went over the material in detail, often giving examples outside of the textbook for extra support.
- You are able to learn many thing. The reading ability can be improved and may ease your understand, even the topic was completing.
- The instructor could explain descriptions in the text which are not familiar for us with examples.
- Profession in the topic of the class. Comments to the assignment was great.
- The instructor gave us extra handouts apart from the linguists textbook which was interesting and made the field easier to understand.
- She always answer questions that makes students understand and she always answer it very nicely. Also she always helps the students it they had problem with the material.
- Always try to answer the questions by the students.
- Professor Matsuoka was always willing to listen to our needs and questions. I felt that she was passionate about teaching Linguistics.
- More discussion between peers, and more time to think. The content was difficult because it was hard to relate back to ourselves. More organization and lower the difficulty of topic.
- To have more class time to work on/discuss about the final essay.
- More assignments or presentations. Didn't have much opportunity to participate during class (compared to other class)
- I think people are more interested in bilingualism rather than syntax.
- Textbook was expensive.
- I suggest to make the material a bit more less and also to make the homework a bit more less.
- The study question passed before the quiz.
- There was too much homework (I think).
自由コメント:
I would be interested in researching a bit more about internet linguistics and netspeak. Your course was really interesting! Liked the style of putting exercises homework at every class.
I had a very helpful and fun time in this class. I don’t take this class in fall but next year if I had a chance, please help me again.
Comment for future students:
- Difficult and challenging, but it may be worth the challenge.
- This course goes over the basic Linguistics in great detail, so if you’re interested in that field you would get an abundance of information and learn a lot. If you’re not as interested in the topic, it may be hard to follow because it goes into depth.
- Ask questions if you don’t understand immediately!
- Do the reading.
教員からのコメント
Thank you for encouraging comments. Your comments, whether positive or negative, made sense to me. I had not taught this course for years and it was not immediately clear how I can efficiently fit oral presentations and the final paper in an introductory course like this. Nevertheless, I was continuously impressed with the attitude and performance of the students in the class. This surely counts as one of the best classes that I have taught.
