Strength of the instructor: Clear explanation made the content easier to understand. The way that she emphasized the importance of sources. The teacher wrote key terms on the board and explained them in great details, which made the readings more relatable to the concepts we were learning. Making us make a group and exhange thoughts. She included time for the students to exhange their thoughts, which made us better at presentations and discussions. The professor did successfully explain the readings that were given as homework after one student asked for more explanation during classtime. She explained a lot about the detailes of the readings, so it was easy to undersatnd and follow the content.とても親しみやすく、かつ使う語彙のレベルがそんなに高くなく、分かりやすい説明をしてもらえたのが良い点でした。She held a library seminar during class so we can do better research. Not only does she summarise the main points of the reading material as a class, she gave us plenty of time to discuss.

Suggested improvements: More specific instruction and clearer question for final project could be the improvement. I felt that giving out rubric sheet with instruction would be very nice.I think more thme should be taken on each chapter. The teacher could have explained more in detail about what exactly she expected from her students in their assignments. The final essay was hard because we didn't get a rubric with a list of expectations (we had one in the spring semester). I feel like I would have done better if we had been given clear directions on what specifically to include in our final papers. Notice us what we should do more frequently. Rap up the classes by writing the facts on boards. Maybe writing the whilte board a little neater would help. Possibly the professor could have created a short reading quiz to confirm the readings that were given for homework for more learning.Try more to make the dicussion of the class heat up? The reading material was a bit too much. I think it would be better if it was one chapter a week. When I read two chapters beforehand by the time we dicusssed it in class, I forgot most of the content.

Other comments :I really want to thank you for teaching many interesting topics. The lessons were easy to follow which made my understandings clearer. I enjoyed this class very much, and think that I was able to become better at English much more than before. Had a rubric been handed out for the final essay, I and my classmates might have had a substancialy easier time to write. Thank you for the personal advice. It was very helpful.

Comments from the instructor: Overall, students in this class had great attitude and were highly motivated to learn the materials. At the same time, the sugested improvments seem to indicate that the students have not realized that a college-level course is different from that in high school. Considering that all students were freshmen, it is understandable. However, I hope students to understand there were plenty of oppotunities for them to come to the instructor with quesitons, particularly right after they received comments for their mid-term presentation and the draft of the essay. That is usually be the best way to understand what the instrucotr expects from her/his students. I will try to explain that more in future classes. Also, I will have to explain the skills of academic reading to students in future classes, as they did not do the reading properly if they forget the content in a few days.
