Media Studies 2014, period 5 class
Chapters 6 and 9 (for class no. 11)
First think about the cinema and music industries. What did you know about
them before you began this course? What have you learnt about them since
beginning this course (as part of the first five chapters)? What more do
you want to know about them?
Then look quickly through both Chapter 6 and Chapter 9. What similarities
and differences are there between the structure of the two chapters and
the sort of information they provide?
The following students should read Chapter 6 in detail: Anri, Jun, Kiyofumi,
Minami, Ryoto, Shoma, Takuro, Takuya, Yuu
The following students should read Chapter 9 in detail: No name, No name,
Ayaka, Shohei, Takashi, Yugo, Yuki I., Yuki M., Yuri, Yusuke
Read the assigned chapter carefully and make notes so that you can explain
the following in your own English words:
1. The main idea of each section of the chapter.
2. Any important changes that have occurred in the industry since the chapter
was written.
3. The differences and similarities between the situations described in
the book and the situation in Japan.
In addition:
a) Is Peter Wall always "objective"? Can you detect any cases
where he is suggesting his preference for one particular view?
b) Are there any points that you find difficult to understand? (Ask about
these before I ask you!)
c) Are there any points that you would like to discuss further?
