Media audiences
Please answer these questions. Try to give reasons for your answers. (Use
the knowledge that you have gained from the textbook and the classwork.)
Make notes of your answers in English, so that you can discuss them in
class.
1. What is your favourite source of a) news, and b) entertainment among
the various media? (Your answer for a) might be a particular television
news bulletin, a newspaper, or an internet site; your answer for b) might
be a particular television program, a magazine, a particular type of book,
a particular type of movie, a music group or many other things....)
2. What sort of audience is each of these aimed at? (How can you tell?)
(Is it a mainstream audience or a niche audience?)
3. What is the size/percentage of the audience (Ž‹’®—¦) for each of the sources?
(You should be able to find this out. In the case of movies or books, it
will probably be necessary to choose one example.)
4. How does each source try to involve you? For example, what does it do
to attract your interest both to make you choose it, and while you are
actually watching/reading/listening? Does it provide a way for you to participate,
for example by texting or clicking?
5. How would you describe your role as a member of the audience of each
source? For example, are you active or passive?
6. Do you want to change your behaviour as a member of the audience? Why?
