The Study Skills Reading and Writing Exam

This will be held during your normal class time on Friday, 17 July in your normal classroom. Note the following:

1. The exam will be 70 minutes long.
2. You may use a dictionary (either electronic or paper), but no device that can be connected to the internet.
3. The exam will have two parts.

• Part A: There will be a passage of about 500 words. You will be asked to write a summary. The summary should be formatted as a paragraph. You must give more than two supporting points.
  
  Part B: You will be given a topic related to the passage. You will be asked to write a paragraph giving your opinion of the topic, with three reasons. You should follow the full Study Skills Paragraph Checklist (Format, Structure, Spelling and Grammar, Unity and Coherence).

You should aim to spend no more than 35 minutes on each part. Try to leave some time at the end so that you can revise what you have done.

Remember that if you have decided NOT to do a rewrite of your essay, you must submit the first draft of your essay then. (If you decide to do a rewrite, you must submit the first draft and the rewrite on Wednesday, 22 July.)
