Information about the Jokyu vocabulary test

The test will be based on the vocabulary in the following chapters: 1, 3, 5, 7 of the textbook. You will only be expected to display knowledge of words that are a "normal" part of academic vocabulary, that is, words that belong to the list of 2570 that are necessary for general academic use. (See the links to the appropriate pages of the 'Compleat Lexical Tutor' website given on my Learning vocabulary page.) For example, you will not be expected to know specialist terms such as "progestogen" (p. 38). On the other hand, you should pay special attention to words that are related to economics. I will also expect you to learn the following words: economy, economics, economic, economical.

You should be able to:
1. Explain the meanings of words in English.
2. Write sentences using words correctly.
3. Write sentences that illustrate the meanings of words.
4. Use words correctly. (For example: You should know what noun(s) an adjective normally describes, what noun/verb patterns there are for a noun or verb, what preposition(s) a noun/verb normally uses, etc.)
5. Link related words to each other.

Sample questions:

1. Explain the meaning of 'economy' in English and write a sentence that illustrates its use.
